Russell Davies celebrates the art, craft and inspiration of the popular song for BBC Radio 2. Each week the programme features a different theme, from the credit crunch, to the anniversary of the singing telegram, to the popularity of the name Marilyn.

Between April and August 2006, Russell focused on twenty lyricists in a bid to establish who the Radio 2 audience felt was the most successful lyricist ever. Throughout the series Russell was joined by a number of special guests including Sir John Dankworth, Neil Sedaka, Alan & Marilyn Bergman, Sir Tim Rice, Clare Teal, and Hal David.

And in November and December 2007 Russell asked the audience to vote on the Greatest Hollywood Musical, with video contributions from Richard Stilgoe, Lorna Luft and Henry Goodman.

Presenter: Russell Davies

Producer: Roy Oakshott
