Dave Pearce is internationally known as the people’s champion of dance music. He currently presents Dance Anthems on BBC 6Music and occasionally on BBC Radio 2. During a successful 13 years at Radio 1 he presented a number of programmes including Drivetime, but is best known for his Dance Anthems show. Dave is also a regular contributor for Up All Night on BBC Five Live.

It was his love of hip-hop that led him to persuade Radio London bosses to pilot a new show called “A Fresh Start to The Week” which became the first ever show of its kind on BBC Radio. He also helped the BBC make a documentary on Public Enemy, which featured their first ever television interview. Dave sent a cassette to Chuck D and the next thing he knew he was featured on the album “It takes A Nation of Millions” with the infamous intro “Make Some Noise”!!

After this he persuaded the bosses at Radio London to set up a late night alternative called Nite FM. Other DJs presenting shows were Pete Tong, Giles Peterson and Gary Crowley.

Dave then hooked up with the new dance station in London, Kiss FM. Kiss had been running as a pirate and was determined to get a license to ensure the station’s survival. Dave signed up as the first DJ, presenting the Drive Time show. He was also responsible for organising the infamous “Kiss At The Astoria” nights.

Dave’s reputation caught the attention of Matthew Bannister, the then Radio 1 Controller offered him the Early Breakfast Show. Although a dilemma for Dave, leaving Kiss behind, he realised that he had take his music and influence to a national audience.

Shortly after Dave joined Radio 1, Chris Evans took over the Breakfast show and Dave became his permanent stand in. Dave moved to weekend mornings and also got his own Sunday afternoon show for clubbers, The Recovery Session. The show quickly gained cult status and was dubbed “The Breakfast Show for Ravers”. Dave had a successful stint presenting Radio 1 Drive Time where he added a million listeners to the show winning a Silver Sony Award. Dave then created the hugely popular Dance Anthems show which he hosted each Sunday evening for decade. Dance Anthems has been a massive success story, during its run it took the second highest share of listeners of any other Radio 1 show and always made the Top 10 most requested playback shows on BBC online.

Dave has also sold over 1 million dance mix compilations including his recent Number 3 2008 hit album Trance Anthems plus several Euphoria Albums and Dave Pearce Dance Anthems compilations through the Ministry of Sound. He was also responsible for the soundtrack to the movie SW9, which earned him an award at the British Film Awards in 2001.

Each weekend finds Dave playing at one of his residencies, which currently include Eden in Ibiza, BCM in Majorca, Escape in Swansea. You can also find Dave at all the summer dance festivals including Escape in the Park, Creamfields and Global Gathering.
