Greg James hosts BBC Radio 1 Afternoon show (Monday-Friday 1-4pm).

He’s also recently presented Sun, Sex and Holiday Madness for BBC Three investigating the exploits of young Britons abroad who often hit the headlines, to see if these holidaymakers are risking more than just their reputations.

At the age of 24 Greg has had a meteoric rise from student radio to daytime BBC Radio 1. Greg was completing his finals in Drama at the University of East Anglia when he was asked to cover five Fridays in June 2007 for the Early Breakfast show. He was on his way to his graduation ball when he was called back to deputise for Sara Cox at the last minute. It was shortly after that that he was offered the Early Breakfast show in September 2007 – a show that he successfully presented for two years. While on Early Breakfast he become the regular stand in presenter for Scott Mills’ Drivetime show, as well as sitting in for a variety of shows including Jo Whiley, The Surgery, BBC Switch and the Radio 1 Breakfast show on Bank Holidays.

After pestering his local hospital radio station at the tender age of 14, he was eventually given a show, only later to find out that the transmitter was broken and his shows were never broadcast.

Greg picked up the ‘Best Male Presenter’ award at the Student Radio Awards in 2005 for his work on UEA’s student station, Livewire – a station where he was also Station Manager. Following his award he also presented many cover shows across the Galaxy network as well as working with the Sports team at BBC Radio Norfolk before being asked to return to pilot for BBC Radio 1.

Since joining Radio 1 he has also done shows from a Motorway service station, a University Tour when he presented from a different university every day for a week, and was asked to do a show from BCM Square in Mallorca with Judge Jules. He has also put his new qualification in acting to use during a cameo in BBC One’s Eastenders as a DJ at the Queen Vic!

As well as being a huge music and theatre fan Greg is also a keen cricketer and tennis player which he fits in between being on the radio. download to print greg's bio as a pdf file (2.9MB)
