You can currently catch Hywel and Jamie presenting Drivetime on Rock FM (Preston) weekdays 3-7pm as well as Kerrang! Radio Sunday’s 5-8pm across the Midlands plus Key 103 Manchester Saturday’s 10-2pm.
Hywel Evans started life studying Theatre, Music and English at A level where he got ABC respectively. On being accepted onto the only Directing Degree course IN THE WORLD (only 10 or so people a year get accepted) at Rose Bruford in London, got a 2:1 in Directing. The world of Theatre was calling and on graduating he went straight into big national theatre tours with Theatre Clwyd - the 'National Theatre' of Wales, and did this until 2003 when Hywel set up a radio station for a sixth form college at the invite of Sir George Sweeney, a fan of my Theatre Work.
The station has been around ever since with four full time paid staff, and is the envy of the Further Education world, and has now - after a year of research and academic study by Hywel the station’s now been granted an FM community licence serving young people in Knowsley (where Radio City rules and BBC is a dirty word).
Jamie Atherton graduated with a degree in History and then worked at a Museum before volunteering to help out at the College Radio station that Hywel was setting up.
Hywel and Jamie’s presenting career included working at Galaxy on demos for a year, before starting at Kerrang! doing various weekend shifts. Their unique style, sense of humour and popularity came to the attention of Key103 Manchester and Rock FM soon followed. For over 12 months Hywel and Jamie did 7 shows per weekend before joining Drivetime on Rock FM.
Hywel and Jamie were nominated in the inaugural Sony DAB ‘Rising Star’ Award at the 2008 Sony Radio Academy Awards.
